Madrid – Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD)
This is the largest and busiest airport in Spain, and is only 12 km from the centre of Madrid. Not only that, but it is so well connected with public transport that it won’t take you long to get there. Metro line 8 connects the city to the airport in 15 minutes, and costs roughly EUR 5. Bus line 203, known as Exprés Aeropuerto, is the express bus connecting the main train station with the airport, and this service runs 24/7. It costs EUR 5 and it will take about 30 minutes. Just make sure you have cash to pay the driver when you get on.
Barcelona – Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN)
This airport saw more than 44 million people pass through it in 2016, so make sure you allow plenty of time to navigate this busy hub. The airport is only 14 km from the city centre, so getting there shouldn’t be too difficult. The metro runs between the city centre and both airport terminals, and a one-way ticket costs EUR 4,50. The Aerobús shuttle bus connects the airport to the city and runs every 5 minutes. It gets you to the airport in 35 minutes and costs EUR 5,90. Of course, there are always taxis, but they are more expensive and will take more time.
